Warstic Bat Co In The Press

YOU GOTTA LOVE THE INDIES.

The little guy fighting to make it, the little dog in the fight. Warstic is the little dog. Volume wise, they’d be in the Pomeranian range. But mindset wise, they’re somewhere between a Mastiff and Clifford the Big Red Dog. They take pride in this imbalance, and ask those who swing their bats to do the same. They’ve managed to do something to the woodbat realm that hasn’t been done in a while- differentiate themselves, thanks to the ‘Wartip’ finish on their bats, where just the last 8″ or so of the bat is finished, and instantly, from across the ballpark, you know what kind of bat is being swung. This rates fairly high on the marketing cool scale, but me being a fundamental baseball guy, you need the meat to back it up, or you’d be Nike Baseball. There again, Warstic delivers. They offer some premium Ash and Maple bats, with customizable options up and down the bat, which is something all of us neurotic ballplayers can appreciate. Barrell size, handle thickness, handle shape, over a dozen stain color options, and the full range of sizes to accommodate every spot in the lineup. Do yourself a favor and check out the Raven Foot and War Buffalo models- very cool. These bats range from $65 to the basic Ash all the way up to $122 for the manliest Maple.

IF PUJOLS MET WARHOL.

We spend 365 days playing with everything we can get our hands on to bring you this: the most lust-inducing gear, tools, accessories, and gadgets of 2011. Maybe you're the type of guy who plays in a baseball league and gets up early on Sunday mornings for BP. In that case, Warstic's boldly painted bats—made from northern white ash—are exactly what you need to keep your stick from getting lost in a pile of Louisville Sluggers. But even if you don't swing for the fences regularly, you can just mount one on the wall and tell friends it's your high-style home defense.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER HITS ONE OUT OF THE PARK

Ben Jenkins is swinging for the fences. The 38-year-old Dallas graphic designer has two passions, creative branding and baseball. He decided to connect them and pay his mortgage in the process. A year into his latest venture, Jenkins, a former infielder in the Philadelphia Phillies’ minor league system, is ahead of the count. His one-man Warstic Wood Bat Co. has captured national media attention and the hearts of batters from as far as Switzerland. “My intent was a company that I would run virtually from my home studio or while on the road in my trailer with my family,” says Jenkins, who’s also founder and creative director of a digital design and branding firm, OneFastBuffalo.

SWINGIN' SLUGGERS. On the field or over a mantel, you won't find a sharper looking bat

Even if you don't know a slider from a knuckleball, you'll still appreciate the beauty of these custom-painted baseball bats from Warstic, a new Texas-based company. Have yours forged from either Northern White Ash or Maple woods, and coated in one of 16 different stains (we're particularly fond of the orange—it's like swinging an emergency cone). The bats are available in three styles: the Half Dip, the Full Dip or the more subtle Warstic Wartip where just the first few inches of the bat are colored. Whatever you choose, the two assertive-looking lines (the "Warstripe") will still be branded into the wood. Who knew ordering a bat could be as fun as building an ice-cream sundae? For an even classier touch, you can have your name engraved on the barrel. And why wouldn't you? It's free. Sure, it's hard to beat the iconic Louisville Slugger, but these guys may be on their way.

WARSTIC

From an ex-minor leaguer now running his own design company, Warstic's bats "encapsulate the warrior mentality" both via traditional ash and harder maple construction they say stands up to those inclined to battle at the plate, and their trademarked "WARTIP" look, which pays homage to the game's rough-and-tumble 19thC roots. They'll also engrave each bat with the buyer's name, and'll gladly do team colors, assuming your beer league hasn't already signed a contract with Phil Knight.

BASEBALL MEETS PANTONE

The Texas-based Warstic Wood Bat Company knows that "there are very few secrets to making a great wood baseball bat," they say. "It's about sourcing and selecting the best wood, craftsmanship, attention to detail and knowing how to achieve the right feel." But Warstic does the process one better by adding a dash of style, and even color, with their lines of Half Dip and Full Dip bats made from ash and maple. There's no denying their results are beautiful, and we like the company's attention to craftsmanship and their confident attitude
